What We Believe
As PMC grows, we stay grounded in our values of care, compliance, and community, and the belief that mental health impacts a person’s overall health. The demand for mental health support has never been greater. We believe everyone should have access to behavioral healthcare, and help hospitals and health systems deliver that care efficiently and effectively.
Our History
Psychiatric Medical Care was founded in 2003 by James A. Greene, M.D., with the opening of the first Senior Life Solutions program, an intensive outpatient group therapy program for older adults, in Tennessee. A native of rural Sneedville, Tenn., Dr. Greene dedicated his life’s work to geriatric psychiatry. His professional career spans 50 years, including 40 years in active clinical practice or academic teaching and over 30 years in geriatric psychiatry.
“I always had a strong interest in working with families, either primary care or psychiatry,” Dr. Greene said. “I wanted to focus on building relationships and talking to folks.”
In 2005, Dr. Greene was named interim chair of psychiatry at the University of Tennessee Health and Science Center, and was named permanent chair in 2008. His steadfast commitment to country living remains the cornerstone of PMC’s focus. “We provide behavioral health access to patients in need,” Dr. Greene said. “We partner with facilities across the country to bring behavioral healthcare to communities that otherwise would have no access to this kind of care.”
Dr. Greene’s son, John Robert “J.R.” Greene, joined PMC in a consulting role in 2009, after making his mark at Coca-Cola, Procter & Gamble, and Revlon. Today, J.R. Greene is PMC’s chief executive officer. He’s transformed PMC into one of the behavioral healthcare industry’s key innovators. Under his leadership, PMC has experienced exponential growth, adding service lines that include management of inpatient psychiatry units, telepsychiatry, teletherapy, and adolescent mental health.
